Approximately 94,000 people within the Broxtowe area are currently covered by NWC (Nottingham West Consortium.) This is a group of GP’s, myself included, working together to look after the people of Eastwood, Kimberley, Bramcote, Stapleford, Chilwell & Toton and Beeston. There are 12 practices and we are working together to improve the Health and Wellbeing of our patients. One of the prime goals is to help people with long term or chronic illness living within our community to optimise and maintain their health. We are doing this by increasing services within the community and have employed Community Diabetic Nurses, Heart Failure Nurses, COPD Nurses and Palliative Care Nurses. Our aim is to focus our resources to the greatest benefit of our population.

Everybody is awaiting the onset of clinical commissioning from April 1st 2013 when GP’s take control of their own budgets. The reality is we have been doing this over the last 3-4 years and are ready to hit the ground running as one of the most innovative commissioning groups in the whole country. All of our practices are striving to develop PPG’s (Patient Participation Groups) with the view to allowing patients to have a direct say in the running of our services.

Indeed our consortium scooped a National Award at the General Practice awards on November 1st 2012, where we were declared ‘Commissioners Of the Year’ (please see http://www.nottinghamwestccg.nhs.uk/index.php/news-and-events/48-national-award-for-nhs-nottingham-west-ccg for details). This is just the start and we intend to push forward with a high quality patient focused service involving your local doctors and patients in local decision making.

The future for Healthcare is in my view exciting and I will be delighted to keep everybody up to date on the changes as they occur week by week.

If you have any concerns or comments to make on the way the Health Service is evolving please feel free to ask questions via the form below and I will be delighted to answer them.
